A nice sunny day is excellent for taking your boat out onto the water. But as much as you may enjoy all that warm sunshine on your bare skin, you need to take precautions. Skin cancer is no joke and getting too much sun can prematurely age your skin. Here are some ways you can limit how much you’re exposed to the sun so that you don’t overheat, burn, or damage your skin.

Wear a Hat

A wide-brimmed straw hat is a good lightweight head-covering option that will protect your scalp and face and neck from sunburn. It can also help cut down on the glare of the sun.

Apply High SPF Sunscreen

You should always wear sunscreen if you’re going out in the sun, even on a partly cloudy day. A high SPF sunscreen that is water-resistant should be applied to your face, neck, chest, arms, hands, legs, and feet unless you’re wearing clothing that covers these body parts. Reapply your sunscreen as directed.

Put On Your Sunglasses

A pair of polarized sunglasses is necessary for good eye protection, in addition to helping you see better in bright sunlight. Your eyes can also be damaged by the sun if you don’t protect them, so look for sunglasses with a UV rating.
